An elopement in the Icelandic Highlands. Kara and Nathan started the day at their cabin, took a detour to the Landmannahellir area and finished with a short hike among the colourful rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar.

About Landmannalaugar

Landmannalaugar lies in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in the Icelandic Highlands, surrounded by rhyolite mountains in shades of orange, pink, green and blue, lava fields and natural hot springs. It is one of the most colourful landscapes in the country.

The Highlands are only open in summer, usually from late June to September, and the roads are F-roads that need a 4×4 – rivers have to be crossed on the way. Most couples either rent a suitable car or go with a super-jeep driver, and we plan the day around the weather and the light.

An elopement in the Highlands feels truly remote: you can walk for hours and meet almost no one. More places to elope in Iceland.
