Winter Wedding at Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon
Amanda & Lucas at Fjallsárlón
A winter wedding at Fjallsárlón, the quieter glacier lagoon next to Jökulsárlón. In February the lagoon was covered in snow and ice, and Amanda and Lucas got married right by the glacier, surrounded by their friends and family under clear umbrellas. Planned by Pink Iceland.
About Fjallsárlón
Fjallsárlón lies about ten kilometres west of the famous Jökulsárlón, at the foot of Fjallsjökull, one of the outlet glaciers of Vatnajökull. It is smaller and much quieter than its neighbour, and the glacier comes right down to the water, so you see the ice wall itself rather than only floating icebergs.
In summer you can take a boat among the icebergs; in winter the lagoon often freezes and everything turns white, as it did for Amanda and Lucas. A winter wedding here needs warm layers, good boots and a plan for short daylight – in February there are only around eight hours of usable light, which is beautiful and soft all day long.
The drive from Reykjavík takes around five hours, so most couples stay a night or two nearby. More places to elope in Iceland.
