Yoda Cave Wedding, Gígjagjá
Alli & Michael at the Yoda Cave
Alli and Michael planned their ceremony at Írafoss waterfall, but with a wet forecast we moved it to Gígjagjá – the cave near Vík whose entrance looks like Yoda’s head. Fifteen guests gathered under the rock arch with the ocean in the background, a cellist and a violinist played, and the day ended with dinner in a private room at Hotel Katla. Planned by Pink Iceland.
About Gígjagjá, the Yoda Cave
Gígjagjá sits at the foot of the Hjörleifshöfði headland, a few minutes’ drive east of Vík along a gravel track. Seen from inside, the cave opening has the unmistakable shape of Yoda’s head, and on clear days you look straight out to the black sand and the ocean.
It is one of the most reliable plan B places on the South Coast: the cave keeps the wind and rain off you and your guests, the acoustics are lovely for live music, and the light coming through the opening is soft and flattering whatever the weather does outside.
If you are planning a wedding near Vík, I always suggest having a sheltered option like this ready. More places to elope in Iceland.
