Strandarkirkja Church & Viking Lodge Wedding
Alice & Freyr at Strandarkirkja
Alice and Freyr got married in Strandarkirkja, the little church by the sea on Iceland’s south coast, in front of 66 guests. After a prosecco picnic the celebration moved to the Viking Lodge, where Vikings and axe throwing took over the reception. Planned by Pink Iceland.
About Strandarkirkja
Strandarkirkja stands almost alone by the sea in Selvogur, on the south coast of the Reykjanes peninsula, less than an hour’s drive from Reykjavík. According to legend it was built by sailors who survived a storm and promised to build a church wherever they reached land – and it is still known as a church that answers prayers.
The small white church is a lovely choice for couples who want a traditional church ceremony in Iceland without driving far from the city, with the ocean and the lava fields of Reykjanes right outside the door.
From the church it is easy to continue to a reception anywhere in South Iceland. More about weddings in Iceland.
