A Wedding at Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte, Florence
Just south of Florence, on the first hills of Chianti, Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte has watched over the countryside for almost a thousand years. Medici princes filled its halls with frescoes, the Corsini family has owned it since 1644, and today it opens its gates only for celebrations. I filmed Hannah and Jasper’s wedding here in October 2024 – a ceremony on the garden terrace, dinner by candlelight under frescoed vaults and a party in the historic rooms.

Nine centuries of history
The villa began around the 11th century as a fortified farm of the Buondelmonti family. Lorenzo il Magnifico acquired it in 1480, and in the 16th century the Panciatichi gave it its Renaissance form – the central turret and the façade with windows framed in grey pietra serena. Between 1630 and 1634 Prince Giovan Carlo de’ Medici, brother of Grand Duke Ferdinando II, had the rooms painted by some of the best Florentine artists of the time, with scenes from Apuleius, Tasso and Ariosto.

In 1644 the villa passed to the Corsini family, who still own it. In 1714 they created a monumental hanging garden, later built lemon houses and, in 1861, laid out a new avenue and an English garden. The villa has hosted celebrations since 1966.
The wedding day
The gardens are made for ceremonies, and the villa has plenty of rooms for any weather – including what the family calls one of the most beautiful frescoed halls in Tuscany. Hannah and Jasper said their vows on the garden terrace with the hills of Chianti behind them, toasted with a champagne tower, and their guests sat down to dinner at long candlelit tables under the frescoed vaults of the villa before dancing late into the night.

Florence on your doorstep
The best thing about Villa Corsini is that it feels deep in the countryside, yet Florence is only 15 to 20 minutes away. Guests can stay in the city, spend the days around the wedding among the Renaissance palaces and galleries, and take a shuttle up to the villa for the celebration. Florence airport is close, and Pisa and Bologna are within easy reach.
