Dyrhólaey & Katla Volcano Elopement

Sage & Garrett’s Breathtaking Iceland Elopement – An Unforgettable Adventure

Sage & Garrett’s elopement was magical. Staying in a cozy Airbnb near Dyrhólaey cliffs, they spent the morning getting ready before FaceTiming their families to share the exciting news. But the most special part? Their beloved grandmother officiated the ceremony, making their adventure even more meaningful.

From the dramatic Dyrhólaey cliffs to the black sands of Reynisfjara Beach, their love story unfolded across Iceland’s wild landscapes. They exchanged vows in the volcanic terrain of Katla, with their grandmother signing the legal papers—a memorable, deeply personal moment.

About Dyrhólaey and Katla

Dyrhólaey is a 120-metre-high promontory just west of Vík, with a huge natural rock arch and views along the whole black-sand coast. In early summer the cliffs are full of nesting puffins, and parts of the promontory may be closed for a few weeks during the nesting season.

Katla is one of Iceland’s most powerful volcanoes, hidden under the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Its black volcanic landscapes, the ice caves at the edge of the glacier and the beaches of Reynisfjara are all within a short drive of Vík – ideal for an elopement with several locations in one day.
