Over 100 Weddings with Pink Iceland
My first wedding with Pink Iceland was in August 2017, on the Reykjanes peninsula. Since then we have planned and filmed more than a hundred weddings and elopements together – behind waterfalls and on black sand beaches, in caves, on glaciers and once next to an erupting volcano. Pink Iceland is the team I trust most in Iceland, and if they are planning your day, there is a good chance we have already worked at your place together many times.

Who Pink Iceland are
Pink Iceland is a queer-owned wedding and travel planner in Reykjavík. Eva María and Birna founded it in 2011 and Hannes joined them a year later. They plan weddings and elopements for every couple, and LGBTQ+ couples have always felt especially at home with them (more about LGBTQ+ weddings in Iceland). Over the years they became more than colleagues to me: I filmed Eva María and Birna’s own wedding in Reykjavík, Hannes’s wedding at Iðnó, and the wedding of Valdi, one of their planners.
How we work together
Pink Iceland takes care of the whole day – the legal side, the officiant, permits and landowners, transport, flowers, hair and make-up, dinner and the timeline – and I fit into it with my camera. Because we have done this so many times, a lot happens without words: they know where I need to stand during the vows, and I know when to step back so you can just be together.
- The timeline. We plan the day around the light, the drive and the weather, not the other way round. In summer that can mean a ceremony late in the evening; in winter, using every hour of daylight.
- A plan B, always. Iceland’s weather changes by the hour. When rain closed in on Írafoss, Alli and Michael’s ceremony moved to the Yoda Cave at Gígjagjá – and it became one of my favourite films.
- The places. Some of our favourite spots are on private land, and the planners arrange permission with the landowners. Others, like national parks, have their own rules for ceremonies and filming, and Pink Iceland handles the applications.
- The people. Over the years we have built a small family of officiants, photographers, florists and drivers who know each other well, which makes the day calm even when the weather isn’t.
Where we have filmed together most
From my records of our weddings together since 2017:
- Írafoss – more than 30 ceremonies at the hidden waterfall under Eyjafjöll, often with a dinner at Skálakot Manor nearby. Getting married at Írafoss.
- Snæfellsnes and Búðir – 16 weddings, many of them at the black church of Búðir. The Búðir church · Eloping on Snæfellsnes.
- Reykjavík – ceremonies and receptions at Harpa and Iðnó. Weddings in Reykjavík.
- Reykjanes – Kleifarvatn, Strandarkirkja church and, in 2021, the volcano. The Reykjanes peninsula · the story of the volcano wedding.
- The South Coast around Vík – Kvernufoss, Skógafoss, Dyrhólaey, the black sand beaches and Gígjagjá. Waterfalls · black sand beaches.
- Þingvellir and Nesjavellir – ceremonies in the national park and by Þórufoss waterfall, with the ION Adventure Hotel close by. Getting married at Þingvellir.
- Glaciers and the south-east – Sólheimajökull, Jökulsárlón, Fjallsárlón and Vestrahorn. Ice caves · Jökulsárlón · Vestrahorn.

Moments we made together
An award-winning wedding at the Yoda Cave
Caroline and Vlad got ready at Hótel Umi, said their vows inside Gígjagjá with the ocean in front of them, walked the black sand of Reynisfjara and ended the day with a candlelit dinner back at the hotel. Planned by Pink Iceland, their film won the video category of the Junebug Weddings Choice Awards 2025.
A wedding next to an erupting volcano
In April 2021, a few weeks after the eruption at Fagradalsfjall began, Pink Iceland planned Jónsi and Sumarliði’s wedding on the lava field, with Árni from Pink Iceland as their officiant. The story travelled around the world, from the BBC to Love Stories TV, which made it the first episode of its Wedding Stories series. Read the whole story and watch the film.
On a glacier
Qesar and Matt’s elopement on the Sólheimajökull glacier was a finalist for Best LGBTQ+ Wedding at the Love Stories TV Awards 2024. Watch the glacier elopement.

Behind the scenes
A few of the stories I have shared from our weddings together over the years – glaciers, super jeeps, helicopters and a lot of hiking.

Planning with Pink Iceland?
If Pink Iceland is planning your wedding, just mention that you would like me to film it – or write to me directly with your date and I will coordinate everything with your planner. I film elopements on my own and bring a second videographer for bigger weddings, digitally and on Super 8 or 16 mm film if you like. You can find more about the legal side and the best season in my guide How to elope in Iceland, and you can visit Pink Iceland at pinkiceland.is.
